Our first crab's name is Crusty and we got him for free. My husband walks in the local mall in the morning before the stores open. Crusty was scurrying across the floor. There was one of those little Kiosk things selling Hermies, and my huband tried to return Crusty there. The guy there told him to just keep him and sent him home with some food and instructions on his care. Needless to say after reading about him we had to get him some company. We now have 3. Crusty, Elizabeth (Lizzie) and Aaron (that's what they tell us their names are.

You have no idea how helpfull your site has been for me and my fiancee. We had what for so long we thought was a large E, but thanks to your site we've finally been able to give her the right species label she deserves, an Rugosus, thank you so much. By the way, you have very pretty crabbies.

My daughter received our hermit crab for Christmas. She named him Fungus. We bought him a friend, Kelly, who died 3 weeks later. Fungus is alive and well and gets so much handling that he doesn't seem lonely. He is larger that a golfball and not as big as a softball. We are trying to learn about him since he doesn't seem to be going anywhere soon. We discovered this website yesterday and it's a miracle he is still alive! But he had his first bath today.

Great site! My 2 daughters and I have one crab named "Star Baby" We have had her 16 months. Her roommate died 3 days after we brought them home. We bought another a few months ago and it also died after 3 days. Star Baby just had her first molt with us, and it scared me to death. I thought she was dead, because she was hanging out of the shell, but she was hiding underneath in her new skin. We love her and hope to get more, but it is heartbreaking when they die.

I have six hermies, the smallest is dime-sized (with shell) to a 1/2"-clawed hermie in pearl turbo shell. I love watching them explore everything in their tank when I rearrange it, and they love to climb on the screen top. I get to see the underside when they do this, and have been able to identify two of my hermies as females. Not sure what species they are, though... I LOVE the photos you've taken, so clear and gorgeous!

Love you site. Very informative.I have 40 crabs at this time.Four species. They range in weight from 1gm. to 100gm. I have 2-20gal.(long)tanks.I have 2 different size hampster balls for then.I also use a 10gal. tank that i call shell park. They dont get into shell fights in their house but they really love going to shell park.I have more shells than i do crabs.I keep then in stackable storage containers. Each crab has an ID card which i keep updated with their activites (shell changes & molts). I also keep it on a floppy.I use 2 gal. terriams for molters.I think the way they come on land to live in a shell created by another animal that is no longer living is so awesome.Like Jehovah is saying RECYCLE.The only pinches i've recieved are from the new ones i bring home.Love them.

But they're $30.00! Although they are exotic strawberry jumbo's. The one I want is in a tonna shell the size of a softball. It is so friendly that it won't go in it's shell! It also has all of his limbs!

Great site! :) I think Mrs.poppypuff should start her own line of products! I'd probably by that for all my hermies.I got my first crabs about 3 months ago and I already have seven; Bobo (male carribean), Liz (female carribean), Sam (male red), Stan (male carribean), Tommy (male jumbo red), De Pince (male red), and Lin (female carribean). I got all of my crab care tips from mrspoppypuff.com. And so far, all of my crabs are healthy and friendly. I thank Mrs.poppypuff for providing the public with the info they need.

Hey this site was really useful! I currently own 8 hermit crabs and am trying different things on them, such as our 'hermit training.' We have one that's named Cosby, he's very big, scary and has pinched me..but that was totally my fault. I've had them for 3 weeks and even the shyest one has wised up and has walked on my hand. The pictures were great and I'm going to try to find out there gender soon.

Hi there! You have a great website!! I too, have recently aquired 2 new hermies from the mall (I had never seen them there before), and now I'm trying to learn as much about them as I can. They are just sooo cute, and I love watching them. My little one dug a hole last night, and I'm waiting to see what will happen next!! I ordered alot of new shells and stuff from Pet Discounters.I'm going to try the forest bedding. They love their baths! At first I was afraid they would drown, but they started walking all around, and seemed real happy! I have mine in a 10 gal aquarium, but I plan on getting a larger size as I get more crabs. I'm hoping I can find some strawberries! Well, just wanted to say "hi", and I really enjoyed your website!! I was wondering what their back parts looked like!! Thanks!!

I am the proud parent of 4 new hermit crabs. Mr Crabbs, Sebastian, Shelby and Hermit. I really don't know what kind they are, but I am having a ball reading your web site and looking at the pictures. I have gotten some good ideas. They get their play time when I go take a shower, they come into the bathroom with me and I close the door and stuff a towel under it (Sebestian and Mr Crabbs climbed under the door the first time I tried it) then they explore all around. I have more fun with them and my cats love to watch them too!

Well, I found your site from others Links pages and you have GREAT PICS of how to tell boy or girl. From your pics I was able to see without a doubt that my older 3 are boys (the lady was wrong) and the two new ones I got from her are girls (she was right about them). So I wanna say THANKS!!
